How this journal advent calendar works

This is a self care advent calendar in book form: no little boxes, just four pages for each day from December 1 to 24. Open one door a day, in order. It is a reflective journal for a few quiet minutes, and every door follows the same four steps.

  1. Read a short essay

Each door opens with its title and two short pages, written to you warmly and plainly. Door 1 is Welcome to Your Journey: A Gentle Beginning; later doors take on the not enough story, the shoulds, comparison and the gentle no.

The top of page 4: the heading Door 1. Welcome to Your Journey: A Gentle Beginning and the first lines of the essay
    Page 4
  2. Keep one affirmation

The second page ends on the door's affirmation, set between two lines, with one of the book's line drawings under it. Door 1 reads: I am worthy of this journey and open to receiving self-love.

The Door 1 affirmation on page 5, I am worthy of this journey and open to receiving self-love, above a drawing of a woman opening a numbered advent door

  3. Answer one big question

The third page is a single question with a full page of lines. Door 1 asks: What does a "gentle beginning" to self-love truly mean to you right now?

Page 6: the big question of Door 1 with ruled lines to write on
    Page 6
  4. Then three small ones

The fourth page holds three shorter questions with a few lines each, for the days when one honest sentence is all there is time for.

24 doors, 24 affirmations, 96 journal prompts and 24 line drawings in 100 pages.

Who it is for

  • You say yes when you mean no, and December is when it shows most.
  • You want something in the countdown to Christmas that is only yours and takes five minutes, not an evening.
  • You like to think on paper, a few lines at a time.
  • You want a self love journal with a shape: one door a day, 24 days, then done.
  • You are buying it for her: a sister, a best friend, your mom or your daughter.

Who it is not for

  • You want a box of 24 little gifts or beauty samples. This is a book you write in.
  • You want a long program with daily homework. Each door is four short pages.
  • You are going through something heavy right now. Please reach out to someone you trust or to a professional first. In the US you can call or text 988 at any time.

This workbook is a tool for quiet self-reflection. It is not a substitute for professional support. If a question brings up more than you want to sit with today, skip it and come back another day.

A self care gift for her, ready by December 1

An advent calendar for women that is not makeup.

Most advent calendars for women are boxes of samples. This one gives her something that is only hers: one door a day, a few quiet minutes and a line to keep. If you are looking at self care gifts for women this Christmas, it is small enough to post and personal enough to mean something.

From a sister, for the one who always says yes. From a best friend, after a year that asked a lot of her. From a daughter, for her mom. From a mom, for a grown daughter in her first busy job.

Give it before December 1, so Door 1 can be that day. If it arrives later, nothing is lost: the doors are numbered, not dated, so she can begin on any day and simply keep going.

Free bonus material

Page 3 of the book has a QR code and a short link to free bonus material: 24 short daily modules for your phone, one for each door, and extra exercises, starting with a core values exercise. As the book's listing describes it, the extras also include 100 morning affirmations to pick from, a thought diary, a letter to your younger self and the Act As If technique.

The bonus page asks for your email address, and the daily modules need a free account in a learning app. Nothing on this page asks for anything.

Questions about this self love advent calendar

What is a self love advent calendar?

A self love advent calendar is a countdown to Christmas with one small act of self-love behind each day. Self Love Workbook for Women: Advent Calendar is one in book form: 24 doors from December 1 to 24, and every door is four pages, with a short essay, one affirmation with a line drawing, one big journal question and three smaller ones.

Self love vs self care: what is the difference?

Self care is what you do for yourself: rest, a quiet corner, a gentle no. Self love is how you see yourself while you do it. The book's subtitle names three parts, self-worth, self-care and self-compassion, and the doors move between them: Door 2 and Door 21 on your worth, Door 9 and Door 18 on looking after your energy and your space, Door 10 and Door 13 on meeting yourself with kindness and forgiveness.

Is this the advent journal from our TikTok videos?

Yes. The advent journal in our TikTok videos is Self Love Workbook for Women: Advent Calendar by Olivia K. Renner, the book with the navy cover and the woman in the Santa hat. Other self love workbooks are popular too, so look for the words Advent Calendar and Olivia K. Renner's name on the cover. It is a real 100-page book, available as a paperback, a Kindle ebook and an audiobook.

How long does each door take?

About five minutes, if you read the two short pages and answer the small questions. The big question can take longer on the days you want it to. There is one door a day, so nothing piles up.

When should I give it, and can she start late?

Give it before December 1 if you can, so Door 1 can be that day. If it arrives later, she can still begin: the doors are numbered, not dated, so any day can be her Door 1, and she can go at her own pace from there.

What is a good self care gift for my sister, best friend or mom?

A good self care gift is one she will actually use and that is about her, not about her house or her skin. This book gives her 24 short moments in December that are only hers, with questions about saying no, comparison and what she wants for herself. It is small, it posts easily, and you can send it straight to her.

Is self love selfish?

Not in the way this book means it. The Door 5 affirmation reads: "My needs are valid, and it is safe for me to prioritize my well-being." Door 22, Your Desires: Giving Voice to Your True Self, starts from the wishes that so often get waved away as selfish and gives them a page of their own.

How do I stop people pleasing and say no without guilt?

The book does not promise a quick fix, but it gives you a place to start. Door 5 looks at why yes comes out so fast and suggests a small first step: saying "Let me check my schedule and get back to you," instead of an automatic yes. Door 8, The Power of a Gentle "No", asks you to begin small, with low-stakes situations, and practice there first.
